Workshops
Kathleen loves working with artists to help them hone their vision and grow in their technical painting and drawing skills. Her background as a mostly self-taught artist has given her ample practice in seeing room for growth in her own work, and she shares these tools for self-critique with her students so that they can continue make strides in their practice of painting long after a workshop is over. To that end, all of Kathleen’s students receive a workshop handbook to take home for further study.
student Testimonials
“Learning to see as an artist, developing the ability for self criticism and the workshop manual makes this workshop one that will shape my practice for years to come.”

“What a terrific workshop experience! Packed with information including a handbook along with engaging lectures and demonstration helped all of us understand her process, techniques and thinking about her award winning work.”

"I loved that Kathleen kept on schedule, shared time equally among students and individualized techniques and skills as needed. The organization of lecture and notes was perfect in my opinion. Everyone absorbs information differently, and I believe Kathleen was able to answer every student’s questions in their individual learning style. I know I walk away more confident, self assured in brush strokes, and excited to do more.”

“Generous, hospitable, collaborative—that"s the tone of the capable, skill-filled experience of participating in a workshop with this well-credentialed artist, Kathleen Hudson.”

“Kathleen's workshop's are structured and well-planned but always responsive to individual and group need. When asked about brushwork, she responded by incorporating theory, demonstrated and provided one-on-one coaching. Everyone's brushwork improved as we also learned about design, using references, the stages of studio painting...and so much more!”

I first became aware of Kathleen Hudson a couple of years ago. During a gallery tour, I stumbled into Kathleen’s studio. Her works took my breath away. Her depiction of light and the visual interest in her paintings seemed to grip you immediately. Then I found out she offered workshops. Having just completed her Luminous Cloudscape workshop, I would highly recommend. She has the teaching ability to impart and explain the techniques used. Her demonstrations are explained as she progresses and insightful. Her critique and help of my in-studio work was invaluable. If you get a chance, don’t pass one of her workshops up.

“Not only is Kathleen Hudson a regional and national award-winning artist, she is an outstanding instructor, who gives 110% to each workshop she conducts. Don't be fooled by her seeming youth. Hudson brings loads of practical advice to her workshops, all the while imparting inspiration and encouragement to step out and try something new. I highly recommend her to artists at all stages of accomplishment, including professionals, since her ability to paint breathtaking landscapes, sky and water leave you wanting to learn more.”
