The painting above is one I began painting right after hiking to the summit of Mount Chocorua with several friends this past summer. It was one of those days where the haze hangs thick on the horizon, making it recede into blue obscurity; the light shifted constantly as the wind blew clusters of clouds overhead. We stopped for an extended lunch break at the top so we could take in the view.
Tonight I joined my friend Emily for an exhibition opening at the Powers Gallery in Acton, MA. It’s a one-man show featuring Sam Vokey, a Boston artist I met earlier this spring. The exhibition showcased an amazing variety of subjects, and it’s clear that Sam approaches each new painting with excitement and a lot of creative energy. He’s painting nearby this week on the Charles River, but he plans to be there before dawn to capture an impression of the somewhat ethereal blue light on the river. That's commitment!
